Angelo Fama passed away on January 7, 2021 peacefully with his two sons at his side. He was 97.
Angelo was born and raised in Manhattan’s Little Italy. His childhood and young adulthood were enriched with old world values and a fascination of cultures known to thrive in Manhattan neighborhoods. His education at Seward Park High School lead him to develop a love of music. Angelo wrote and composed a number of songs that were published and sung by notable recording artists. His other advocation was baseball where he played stickball on the streets of Manhattan and later for his high school team. Angelo worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 26 years and retired with the US Post Office in Manhattan.
His love of his life was his wife Rose, nee Allotta. They were married for over 61 years and had a joyful and fulfilling life together. They moved from Little Italy to Staten Island in 1963 where they established a permanent residence. Rose and Angelo were known as a team who loved to cook and celebrate their family and friends. An avid and young NY Yankee fan, Angelo attended games at Yankee Stadium to watch Babe Ruth play. He continued his fandom of the Yankees throughout his life.
Angelo was a gentleman who spoke with intelligence, kindness, compassion, wit and insightfulness. Despite his advanced years, he conducted himself as a vibrant upstart ‘young at heart’individual. Never bemoaning his age, Angelo always looked forward to today and the future. He was an exemplary model demonstrating that old age should not be feared. Angelo had many friends he made along his long and happy life.
Angelo is survived by his two sons, Joseph and his wife Linda, Gary and his wife Diane, five grandchildren, Lauren and her husband Joseph, Robert and his wife Christina, Brooke and her husband Matthew, Erica and Marissa and three great grandchildren, Lyla, Michaela and Isabelle with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Frances Paolucci, and brothers Rocco, Vincent and Pat.
A limited private funeral was held.
