Bonnie Buchan

Bonnie Schmidt Buchan, age 56 years of Beach Haven, New Jersey passed away peacefully amongst family and friends on February 25, 2022.

Bonnie was born on March 13, 1965 in Abington, Pennsylvania.  She is survived by her children Hannah, Brooke and Andrew, her husband, Douglas, her parents, Marilyn and Robert Schmidt and her sister, Sandy.

Bonnie was a graduate of the Perkiomen School in 1983 and founded the boutique, Sur La Plage in 1986.  The shop became very popular on Long Beach Island which is now in its 36th year.  Bonnie earned a reputation of having impeccable taste, which drew many young women aspiring to be in the fashion industry to work at Sur La Plage under her guidance.

Bonnie’s personal life was devoted to her family and friends. She was an amazing spouse, mother, daughter and friend.  Always dedicated and engaged in all of her children's interests and activities, Bonnie volunteered her time to causes such as Operation Smile and the Wilson reading program.  Bonnie was an equestrian, a passion which she shared with her daughters, Hannah and Brooke.  She volunteered at various barns assisting with therapeutic riding for the benefit of those with disabilities.  Bonnie also served on the board of her son, Andrew’s, rowing team and on weekends, could be seen cheering him on from the banks of the Schuylkill River.

As a friend, Bonnie was truly the best.  Loyal, kind, fun and always supportive.  She nurtured her friendships into lifelong relationships and made people feel like one of her family.  Every person that was fortunate enough to know her, saw her as a light in their life.  She brought a special kind of sunshine to her family, friends and Sur La Plage. Bonnie was one of a kind and her presence in the lives of those she touched will never be forgotten.
