Christopher William Schmid, Jr., 95, of Long Beach Township, N.J. passed away peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2018.

Born and raised in Staten Island, he opened Chris’ Flower Shop and operated it for 36 years with his loving wife, Doris.  In 1984 they moved to their summer home in the High Bar Harbor section of Long Beach Township, NJ.  He proudly served his country as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate First Class in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Barnegat Light, NJ, a former EMT for the Barnegat Light First Aid Squad and a former member of the U.S. Power Squadron, Staten Island, where he taught boating safety courses.  In addition to spending time with his family and friends, Chris enjoyed gardening, swimming, boating, fishing and clamming, woodworking, bible study and vacations in the Florida Keys.  Chris possessed many skills, and he was happiest when helping others.

Chris leaves behind his beloved wife of 67 years, Doris (nee Griffith), his sons, Chris, Charles (wife Valerie), and Kenneth (wife Arlene), daughters, Susan Folinus (husband Robert) and Barbara Annarumma (husband Salvatore), his 9 grandchildren, Ryan, Danielle, Jeffrey, Kevin, Kenneth, Chris, Joseph, Lisa and Bethany, his 6 great-grandchildren, Sarah, Kyle, Caleb, Lucas, Jace, and Colby, as well as many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, from 3pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm at Maxwell-Tobie Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Road, Manahawkin, NJ 08050.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, 10am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Zion Lutheran Church, Central Ave & E 18th Street, Barnegat Light, NJ 08006.
