Age 86 Manahawkin
Doris M. Galanti (nee Moran) of Manahawkin, NJ, 86, passed away peacefully at Southern Ocean County Medical Center with her devoted family at her side.
She was the cherished wife of Gino Galanti for almost 64 years, who predeceased her in June of this year. Doris was born on April 25, 1931 in Jersey City to the late James Patrick and Delia (nee Morris) Moran, who emigrated from County Mayo, Ireland. Doris was predeceased in death by her loving brothers James and Donald and her dear twin brother Franny (Frank) Moran. Doris is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Raymond and Gloria Moran, sister Rita Miller, and sister in law, Ruth Moran. She is also survived by her three daughters and their spouses Michele (Michael) Pierro, Geraldine (Barry) Craft and Laura (Kevin) Stokker and only son, John Galanti. Doris will also be missed by her 8 grandchildren, Nicole, Timothy, Michael, Elizabeth, Michele, Lauren, Gina, and Mallory and 2 great-grandchildren, Natalie and Cameron. Many dear in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends are left to mourn her loss.
Doris attended the College of St. Elizabeth’s in Morristown NJ and worked as a teller at First National Bank in Hoboken NJ. She left the bank to raise her children and returned to work at Kids R Us when her youngest was in high school. She loved family, company, retirement and all things Irish, especially traditional Irish music and dance. She was always ready for when her Uncle Pat would say, “Doris, give us a step”. Her trips to Ireland were the highlight of her travels and she thought it was the most beautiful place she had ever seen, as green was her favorite color.
Friends and family were always welcome and knew they could count on Doris for a good chat, a spry sense of humor, and a cup of tea. Following in her mother’s footsteps, Doris loved to play games, do cross-word puzzles, and had an endless capacity to entertain her grandchildren and great grandchildren. For years she would spend her Wednesday mornings with her friends playing cards at Manahawkin’s Senior Center. Doris was a good friend to so many. Her kindness, patience, wit, and gentle spirit will be sorely missed.
