Dorothy "Dot" E. Bennert

Dorothy “Dot” E. Bennert, age 101, of Surf City, NJ passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. 

She was born December 25, 1922 to George and Dorothea Riley in Jersey City, NJ. At the age of four, the family moved to Livingston, NJ. She graduated from West Orange High School after which she worked for Monroe Calculating Machine Company. She enjoyed bowling and at one time was secretary to the Livingston Women’s Bowling League. In 1943, she married the love of her life, Lawrence W. Bennert Jr. In 1983, she moved to her summer home in Surf City which she and Lawrence purchased in 1968. It was there that Dot became a volunteer at St. Francis of Assisi Church, and for the Surf City Fire Company #1 Ladies Auxiliary where she served for more than 20 years. She also volunteered at Southern Ocean Medical Center, Manahawkin.

She is predeceased by her parents George and Dorothea, her husband Lawrence, her brother Vincent and her sister Alice. 

She is survived by her two sons, Larry and wife Linda and Thomas and wife Lois, her daughter Patricia and her partner Greg Bator, her eight grandchildren, her 8 great grandchildren, her sister Mary Falk, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her very good friend Pearl Bowman. 

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 11, 2024, 11AM at St. Francis Of Assisi, 4700 Long Beach Blvd., Brant Beach, NJ 08008.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Surf City Ladies Auxiliary or St. Francis Center, Brant Beach.
