Fredrick P. Seeber, a 54-year resident of Manahawkin and former Stafford councilman, passed away on October 17, 2024, at the age of 83. Born on July 14, 1941, in Jersey City, Dr. Seeber devoted his life to the pursuit of knowledge and the cultivation of future generations of scientists.
A distinguished professor emeritus of physics and an internationally recognized expert in laser safety, Dr. Seeber graduated from Jersey City State College and Rutgers University, where he earned a doctorate in education and was later named a distinguished alumnus. Dr. Seeber taught for decades at Camden County College and the former Laser Institute of Technology for Education and Research where he inspired countless students with his passion for physics and laser technology, and commitment to excellence in teaching. His research in laser safety earned him acclaim worldwide, and he contributed significantly to the establishment of safety standards that protect both educators and medical professionals. Fred contributed significantly to the establishment of Laser safety standards for both educators and medical professionals through chairing ANSI committees. He was also the PI and awarded numerous NSF grants for the National Center for Optics and Photonics. Fred was awarded for his commitment and service to the National Fire Protection Association.
Beyond his academic contributions, Dr. Seeber was a dedicated community leader, serving with distinction on the Stafford Township Council for 22 years. His steadfast commitment to the welfare of Stafford Township fostered thoughtful and sustainable growth, reflecting his deep-rooted belief in the importance of community engagement. Fred was an avid fisherman who cherished the time spent on boating adventures and fishing trips with his family. His profound love for the ocean and bay led him to the Jersey Shore, where he chose to put down roots nearly 50 years ago.
Fred is predeceased by his father, Fredrick W. Seeber, his mother, Columbia (nee Casadonte) and his sister, Constance Malzer. He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication, survived by his beloved wife of nearly 61 years, Patricia (nee Warren), and their three children: Colleen (Chris), Patricia (Tony), and Fredrick (Sandra). He cherished his role as a grandfather to seven grandchildren: Anthony, Chris, Thomas, Fredrick, Lukas, Brendan, and Leah, along with numerous nieces and nephews, including Lisa McCollom (Scott) of Toms River. His brilliance in his professional pursuits was matched only by his unwavering devotion to his family.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm at Maxwell-Tobie Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Road, Manahawkin, NJ 08050.
His Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Friday, October 25 at St. Mary Of The Pines Church, 100 Bishop Lane, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Beachview Avenue, Manahawkin.
