George Pruden

George Thomson Pruden, beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather passed away peacefully on Friday, November 27, 2020.

Born and raised in Newark, NJ, George and his brother Harry grew up happily in a home surrounded by many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins who George adored and cherished throughout his life.  George was strongly influenced and had a special bond with his maternal grandfather, Joseph Sommer, who instilled in him a strong value system and work ethic.

After graduating high school, George began a career with the NJ Bell Telephone Company, where he worked for over 35 years as a Lineman and Splicing Technician.  George was well-liked by his co-workers and spent many proud years as a Union Representative, working to preserve the rights of his colleagues.  During his twenties, George also served proudly in the US Army National Guard for six years.

Married to the love of his life, Helen Patricia Woods (Patty) in 1958, they shared 42 years of a wonderful marriage, raising their family in Newark, Harrison and ultimately Cedar Grove, NJ, where they lived for 28 years.  Following George's retirement from the NJ Bell in 1993, they retired to Manahawkin where George enjoyed fishing, crabbing and spending time with his wife and family - especially his grandchildren.   George and the family greatly mourned Patty, who passed too young in 2000.

George also subsequently shared many good years with his companion, Jean Gray, who passed in 2018.

George is survived by his son, Glen Pruden and his fiancée Lisa Fitzgerald, daughter Linda Calafiore and her husband, Paul, daughter Paula Brennan and her husband, Owen, and his brother Harry and his wife Christine.  Also surviving are George's beloved grandchildren, Paulie, Cody and Angelina Calafiore, Danielle and Brianna Pruden, and Sean and Emma Brennan, and an extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held for George on Sunday, November 29, 2020 from 1pm to 4 pm at the Maxwell-Tobie funeral home, followed immediately by military honors also at the funeral home. Due to Covid 19 guidelines, the funeral home is operating at restricted capacity. Please note that face masks and social distancing are required at all times for all in attendance of all services.
