George H. Wahlgren, Jr.
November 4, 1945 - August 18, 2023
77 years old
George Hubert Wahlgren, Jr, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on August 18, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer.
George’s proudest accomplishment was his family. He leaves behind his bride of 46 years, Theresa (née Triano), and their three children, George T (Kara), Kristina Quay (Michael), and Thomas (Leah). He was the loving grandpa to George, Travis, Daniel, Michael, Karoline, Stella, Jane, and Max. He will be greatly missed by his sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and his cousins in Sweden.
Born November 4, 1945, George was the only child of George Hubert Wahlgren Sr and Elsie Wahlgren, who emigrated from Sweden to the United States. He attended Union High School and Newark College of Engineering before serving in the Army National Guard from 1970 to 1976. George and Theresa raised their family in Basking Ridge, NJ, while George worked for 26 years as a tool and die maker at National Tool & Manufacturing, where he advanced from an apprentice machinist to a plant manager for three factories. George and Theresa relocated to Manahawkin in 2003, where George began a second career as a local realtor.
His 77 years were filled with happy memories — including Caribbean cruises, camping trips, long car rides, boating on the bay, beach days, watching Nascar, listening to country music, and visiting his extended family in Sweden. He was a jack-of-all-trades and his family knew they could count on his problem-solving skills for car repairs and DIY projects.
Services will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. Viewing at Maxwell-Tobie Funeral Home in Manahawkin from 9:00 to 11:15 a.m.; mass at St. Mary of the Pines in Manahawkin at noon; entombment at Ocean County Memorial Park in Waretown at 1:15 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org or the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.or g
