James O'Keefe

James (Jimmy) O’Keefe passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at the age of 66 at Southern Ocean County Medical Center in Manahawkin, NJ, surrounded by his family. 

Jimmy was born on April 8, 1957 in The Bronx, NY to John O’Keefe Sr. and Dorothy O’Keefe, née Solar. He attended St. Benedict Grammar School and graduated from Mount St. Michael Academy in 1975 before working in the Cocoa Industry as an Import Manager and Cocoa Grader. His work took him and his family over the years from Poughkeepsie, NY to Olathe, KS and finally Manahawkin, NJ, where he last managed his own company, Agri Forwarding Corporation.

In his spare time, Jimmy enjoyed a variety of hobbies including music, cars, and cooking his favorite foods. He loved guitars, gadgets, New York pizza, and especially his Golden Retrievers, Comet, Halley, and Ellie. However, Jimmy enjoyed nothing more than spending time at home with his family. His happy place was a sunny summer Saturday spent relaxing at the pool with his wife and children, before eating one of their favorite meals and watching their traditional Saturday night movie.

James is survived by his brother, Dan O’Keefe, his loving wife, Diane O’Keefe, as well as his three children and their families, Kim O’Keefe and Aaron Balogh, Brian and Brittany O’Keefe, and Taryn, Nico, and granddaughter Lucy Long.

Visiting hours will be Friday, November 3, 2023 from 10:00am until his time of remembrance, 11:45am at Maxwell-Tobie Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Road, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, 283 Beachview Avenue, Manahawkin, NJ. A reception at the O'Keefe home will follow the interment at approximately 1:30pm.
