Mary Beth Goldstein

Mary Beth “Cookie” Goldstein, age 73, passed away peacefully with a smile on her face on August 21st, 2018 at her home in Harvey Cedars, NJ. She battled courageously with complications from pancreatic cancer.

Cookie was born on May 28th, 1945 at St. Catherine’s Hospital in East Chicago, Indiana to Julius and Irene Hupke. She graduated from Holy Cross Nursing School in South Bend, Indiana where she obtained her RN degree. She then moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she worked as a nurse at Penn and obtained her Bachelor’s degree in nursing. She married Dr. Dick Goldstein on July 8, 1973, whom she met at the Jersey Shore. She would later help him run a pediatric practice in both Manahawkin and Medford, New Jersey.

Cookie thoroughly enjoyed cooking for everyone around her. She enjoyed reading, knitting, quilting, and sewing. She made many quilts, blankets, hats and scarves for her loved ones and even sewed her own wedding dress. Cookie loved having a big glass of wine on the deck with her family and friends. She was a provider for her guests and accommodated their needs, whether it was a small gathering or hundreds of people that Dick invited from Memorial Hospital on an annual basis. Either way she never once complained. She loved all aspects of nature including the local bird population, especially cardinals. Cookie was a loving and nurturing wife, mother and grandmother. Her kindness, strength, compassion and sense of humor will be fondly remembered.

She is survived by her husband Dr. Dick Goldstein, her children Julie Goldstein (Mark Tesi), Amy (Jim) Justice and Tim Goldstein, her three grandsons Frankie Tesi, Charlie and Tommy Justice, her brother Robert (Ann) Hupke, sisters Marilyn (Tom) Clifford and Margie (Nick) Novac.

A memorial gathering will be held at 2:00pm on August 25th, 2018 at Maxwell-Tobie Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Rd, Manahawkin, NJ 08050.
