Paul A. Gavin, age 88, of Little Egg Harbor, formerly of Manahawkin, NJ and Philadelphia, PA passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2022. Visiting hours will be Friday, September 30, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM with funeral services beginning at noon at Maxwell-Tobie Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Road, Manahawkin, NJ. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Manahawkin, NJ.
Paul was born and raised in Dorchester, a neighborhood in Boston, MA, known to be gritty. As a former resident, he could often be heard claiming to be "OFD"--Originally From Dorchester. You can take the man out of Dorchester, but never the Dorchester out of the man as noted by his Bostonian accent still decades later. Paul proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy stationed in Willow Grove, PA, after which he settled in Philadelphia. He attended evening classes at Saint Joseph's University and earned his degree in Business Administration grounded in liberal arts and Jesuit values.
His career was multifaceted launching with General Electric first, as a salesman and later, as a sales leader. In the late 60's, he branched out on his own becoming the owner/operator of Mort Farr appliances and later was a sales leader for Litton Industries. By the late 80's, Paul and his son Paul (PJ) formed Gavin Associates, a manufacturing representative group that earned national recognition.
In his younger years, Paul was a sailor and skier but his true passion was golf. Known to be on the course both Saturday and Sunday of every weekend, Paul was an active member of the Raiders Golf Club out of Ocean Acres in Manahawkin well into his 80's.
Paul is survived by his devoted wife of 16 years, Elaine (nee Belland) and by his children Paul J. Gavin, Karen Gavin Avis (John) and Donna Gavin and his grandchildren Jennifer, Matthew, Jack, Luke and Madeline lovingly known to them as Grampa. Also survived by Elaine's children Valerie Angiollilo (Robert), Melody Damis (Gregory) and Jennifer Coyne and her grandchildren Michaela, Maxime, Austin, Maddison and Jacky affectionately known to them as Grand Paul.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org
