Bohs, Pearl (Polly) Murray
Pearl “Polly” Bohs (nee Murray), of Manahawkin and formerly of Medford Lakes, NJ passed away at home surrounded by her husband and daughters on December 27, 2017. She was 86 years old.
Polly is survived by her husband, Gerald, to whom she was married for 67 years; her daughters, Nancy, Susan, and Judith; her son-in-law Roger Smith; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings Irene Heisler, Earl Murray, Virginia Mathews, John (Jack) Murray, and William Murray, as well as her parents Stephen and Irene (nee Carr) Murray.
Polly was born on March 11, 1931 in Delanco, NJ, the youngest of six siblings. She went to Delanco public schools and graduated from Palmyra High School in 1949. While in high school, Polly was an avid field hockey player, as well as a member of the school choir and the Drum and Bugle Corps. It was at Palmyra High where she met Jerry Bohs, a handsome and charming football and baseball player. The high school sweethearts married shortly after they graduated. Polly worked in Philadelphia for the Presbyterian Ministers Fund before Jerry joined the Air Force. During Jerry’s four years in the USAF, they lived in Charleston, SC, where Polly worked for the Army Corps of Engineers. After the Air Force, Polly and Jerry lived in Cinnaminson and Palmyra before moving to Medford Lakes in 1965.
In Medford Lakes, where they would live for 35 years, Polly and Jerry raised their daughters in the “free range” style of the community. Polly was a dedicated room mother for her daughter’s classes, and in later years served on the Medford Lakes Board of Education. Polly was a gifted soprano and studied voice at the Settlement Music School of Philadelphia for many years, and she performed as a soloist and choir member throughout her years in Medford Lakes. Polly also worked as an insurance agent at the J.S. Braddock Agency in Medford after her youngest daughter entered school. In 2000, Jerry and Polly moved to a bungalow on the water at the Jersey shore.
