Richard Gutkowski Sr. April 5, 1938 - September 19, 2018
Richard Gutkowski Sr., Manahawkin, NJ passed away peacefully at home on September 19, 2018 at the age of 80.
He was born in Lyndhurst, NJ on April 5, 1938 and was a lifelong New Jersey resident. Rich and his beloved wife, Claire DeMarco Gutkowski were high school sweethearts. They shared over 60 years of their lives together and were married on April 5, 1959. Richard was also known as “Papa” to his children, grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He owned & operated a deli in Brick prior to working in the Purchasing Department at Children’s Specialized Hospital in Toms River.
Some of Rich and Claire's happiest memories include traveling. Their favorite destinations were Hawaii and Bermuda. He always cherished and held close to his heart the quality time spent enjoying a family dinner, attending a grandchild’s soccer, baseball game, or even telling one of his many jokes. He was a Lionel Train enthusiast and an avid NY sports fan including the Giants, Mets and NJ Devils; attending and watching countless games with his wife, son and grandchildren. His family and friends will always treasure the precious memories and his love in their hearts. He will be remembered for his light hearted spirit, laughter and as “Mr. Good Looking”.
Richard joins his parents, Thaddeus & Bertha Gutkowski and a brother, Alan Gutkowski in eternal rest. Survivors include his wife, Claire DeMarco Gutkowski; a daughter, Victoria Szieber and husband Rich of Manahawkin; a son, Richard Gutkowski Jr. and wife, Claire of Manahawkin; a brother, Raymond Gutkowski and wife, Jeanette of Alabama; 4 grandchildren, Christopher Szieber and wife, Jill of Toms River; Daniel Szieber and wife, Celia of Manahawkin; Lorryn Calicchio and husband, Kenny of Manahawkin; Rich Gutkowski and fiance, Danielle of Barnegat; 5 great grandchildren, Chase, Brielle, Joslyn, Logen and Konner.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, September 21, 2018, from 5pm to 9pm at Maxwell-Tobie Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Road, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 22, 2018, 10am at St. Mary of the Pines Church, 100 Bishop Lane, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Beachview Avenue, Manahawkin.
