Ronald James Rutan Sr., 77, passed to the Lord on February 13th, at Southern Ocean Medical Center, Manahawkin.
After completing high school, Ron joined the US. Navy serving on the USS Wasp CVS 18, S58 Sikorsky Anti-submarine Helicopter Squadron HS 11. After discharging from the Navy, Ron worked for NJ Bell Telephone Co. as a senior lineman for 28 years, retiring in 1992. While working for Ma Bell, Ron joined the Air Force Reserve, 514 Military Air Lift Wing at McGuire Air Force Base, NJ. Then joined the Air National Guard as a Crew Chief for the 177 Fighter Interceptor Group, NJ Devils, Atlantic City, NJ.
After retiring from NJ Bell Telephone Company, he moved to Bremen, Maine volunteering as a Pemaquid Watershed Conservation Group lake monitor, and as a ballotclerk for the Town of Bremen. He also took pride in volunteering at Battleship Cove, Fall River, MA., on the US Massachusetts, organizing their new ship’s military library, reconditioning communication equipment and other duties.
Ron is predeceased by his parents, Walter and Marion Rutan, Wanamassa, NJ and his brother Edward, Oakhurst NJ. He is survived by his family, wife, Karen Rutan, sons Ronald J. and Suzanne, Matthew C., and Jason E. and Debie Rutan, his four grandchildren, Kolin F., Kirsten C., Quentin J., and James J. Rutan, as well as his sister-in-law, Barbara Rutan, his nieces; Carol and her husband Jim Scollay, Katie, & Lisa, and his nephews; Patrick, Michael, Jeffrey, Gregory & Grant.
The Family is proud of the life Ronald Rutan Sr., led as a patriot, husband, father, and grandfather. He is safe and painless at last, Thanks be to God.
A memorial gathering will take place on Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 10am until his memorial service, 11am, at Church of the Holy Spirit, 333 N. Main Street, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Cremation was private.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Ron's memory to a favorite charity of choice.
