Timothy D. Toner, 75, of Manahawkin, N.J., formerly of Riverside, NJ, and Ship Bottom, NJ, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020.
Tim was born in 1945 in Riverside, NJ to the late Joseph and Amanda Toner, the younger of two brothers. He was a graduate of Riverside High School. Tim married Bernadette Gross in 1967, and lived and raised his family in Riverside, NJ until he and Bernadette moved to their much-loved home in Ship Bottom, NJ on Long Beach Island. Tim worked as a journeyman electrician in IBEW Local 439, then Local 351. Along with his wife, Tim was also the proud owner of Reliable Healthcare Agency until his retirement.
Tim was an avid reader and enjoyed watching old movies. He liked history and politics, and he was always up for a good debate. He possessed equal parts “gift of gab,” stubbornness, charm, wit, passion, and love of a good drink. All lent themselves to the spirited and lively discussions in which Tim liked to engage.
Tim loved basketball, music – especially Motown and classic rock, Boost, his cats, sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch, Riverside, Long Beach Island, his family, and the love of his life, Bernadette. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and bragged about each of them.
Tim is survived by his wife Bernadette Toner of Manahawkin, NJ, his children Alissa (John) McGreevy of Moorestown, NJ, Timothy (Beth) Toner of Mount Laurel, NJ, and Scott (Atsumi) Toner of Honolulu, HI, his grandchildren Kaitlyn (Edward) Forsthoffer, Sean (Kelly) McGreevy, Casey (Robert) Papotto, Clare McGreevy, Sara Toner, Amelia Toner, Miranda Toner, Corrin Toner, Erica Toner, Ryan Toner, Lance Toner, Jake Toner, and Bryson Toner, his brother Michael (Jeanette) Toner, his brothers-in-law Joseph Larkins and Gerard (Kathleen) Gross, as well as many nieces and nephews, and his beloved cat, Sadie.
Tim’s cats over the years were an important part of his life. His most recent rescue, Sadie, was second only to Bernadette as his most faithful and cherished companion.
In lieu of flowers and in remembrance of Tim’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Friends of Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter at www.fosocas.org or Tim’s other favorite charity, St. Jude’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org
