Victor Willis Hartz, Jr.

Victor (Vic) Hartz passed away peacefully on September 16, 2017 at Southern Ocean Medical Center with his wife of 46 years, Marilyn Decker Hartz, his daughter Amy Hartz, and son-in-law Bob Mongiello by his side after a short but courageous battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

He was born in 1940 in Neville Island, Pennsylvania and resided in Manalapan before relocating to Manahawkin and Green Valley, Arizona.

He met Marilyn while she was a nurse at Newark Presbyterian Hospital. They celebrated their 46th Anniversary this past May. Vic was a veteran of the United States Air Force, stationed in Roswell, New Mexico. He had a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Thomas Edison College and worked as an Environmental Safety Engineer/Consultant for various insurance companies, retiring in 2003. He loved to travel, having been to 46 states and six countries. Vic had a passion for the outdoors and loved keeping in shape. He was a regular at the gym and received a black belt in Karate when he was in his 50’s.

He enjoyed hiking in the Arizona mountains and deserts. Although afraid of heights, he would reluctantly go on Ferris wheel rides with his beloved Amy, even knowing she would rock the car to tease him. He was known for never keeping still and was always seeking adventure. There was nothing that he wouldn’t try. Vic loved being spontaneous and would think nothing of getting a tattoo or purchasing a car at a moment’s notice. He was one of a kind and will be missed by family and friends.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 from 2pm to 4pm with services beginning at 3:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at www.lls.org.
